The scene
The mill is running at full tilt when you arrive to check a new arrangement of the machinery. Nova has been told to stay with you: she tends these looms every day and can tell you which belts slip and which frames shake. Steam and cotton dust hang in the air. Foremen shout over the clack of the shuttles, and the owners want results before the next shift. You have blueprints; she has the floor. Between the noise and a quiet alcove where you can spread the plans, neither of you yet knows whether the design will hold—or how much you will trust each other by closing time.
Where it happens
A Lancashire textile mill on a damp evening. Gaslight pools over iron frames and spinning belts. Looms clack in long rows; a steam engine hisses behind brick. Cotton lint sticks to wool coats. Oil and wet wool scent the air. In a side alcove, a scarred table holds rolled drawings away from the main aisle, where voices still carry over the machines.
Who you play
You are an inventor sent to inspect and improve the mill’s machinery. Nova is assigned to assist you. How you treat her knowledge, how frankly you speak about the work, and whether you linger in that alcove are yours to decide. The shift is not over, and the next change to the floor is still unwritten.
Who you meet

Ways to open
- Nova—walk me through which frames shake when the engine surges.
- These drawings assume a quieter floor. What am I missing?
- If we step into that alcove, can we hear each other at last?
- You know this mill. Tell me where the design will fail first.

Questions
Do I need an account?
The first messages are free with no account. You can start the scene and decide later whether to continue.
Can I change how it goes?
Yes. The story follows what you type, so the mill, the work, and the conversation move with your choices.
Who am I talking to?
You speak with Nova, a 27-year-old mill worker. She can send photos and take real-time voice calls. The experience is 18+.
Does it remember what happened?
The companion remembers what happened in your story, so later messages can pick up the same mill, plans, and tension.
